Instead of jerking his body across to try to get velocity on the ball, he should try to use more whip from his fore arm. If he keeps his body more calm through out his motion, it'll make his slider more effective and more consistent. Once he figures out how to do this, then he will be the top guy in the rotation.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6347536209014288641.post-54010087361387473452009-12-23T10:43:26.312-08:002009-12-23T10:43:26.312-08:00Will,

Viola has the type of arm that could really enable him to flip the switch, but he has to find more consistent command. Valiquette is another arm that has stepped his game up as of late, but looks to have the ceiling of a middle reliever.

I was really intrigued to see the Reds add Pawelek. The Cubs burned a first round pick and a hefty Boras negotiated bonus to draft him, but he completely collapsed. He's got a lot to prove, but he still has the potential that made him a first rounder. Still, at this point, I would recommend just putting him on the mental back burner. If he pans out, fantastic, but I'm not expecting much. Still, a nice risk/reward signing.

I also have an eye on Horst and Fairel. Horst stumbled at double-A this year, so he'll need to bounce back in 2010. Fairel performed well, but as a polished college prospect he should have such success against low-A and high-A competition. So, 2010 will reveal a lot about each.

Despite the recent promotions, the Reds still have some good depth in the system.

Thanks for the comment!

Best,
LarkLark11https://www.blogger.com/profile/06571198327064220683noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6347536209014288641.post-32586423292727724952009-12-22T18:12:22.198-08:002009-12-22T18:12:22.198-08:00I'm Will

Viola, Valiquette and Thurman are 3 off the top of my head who can be as good or better. But overall excellent breakdown as usual.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6347536209014288641.post-18567904189087825292009-12-22T09:35:10.779-08:002009-12-22T09:35:10.779-08:00Smitty,

I wonder how effective he'll be against righties if he only has pitches that break in towards them.

Joseph strikes me as the type of pitcher who could really use a change-up that fades to the arm side. That would give him lateral movement in both directions and reduce the possibility of a significant platoon split.

Regardless, if he can refine his fastball and slider, he could be a tough southpaw out of the pen and could give the Reds some quality high leverage innings.

Thanks for the comment!

Best,
LarkLark11https://www.blogger.com/profile/06571198327064220683noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6347536209014288641.post-29336131675351381842009-12-22T04:11:46.753-08:002009-12-22T04:11:46.753-08:00the things i noticed most about him in the video w...the things i noticed most about him in the video was his pitch movement. His slider is nasty, and his fast ball has good cut into the hands of lefties.smittynoreply@blogger.com
