You...Well, you raise some interesting points, Jane. You're right that HGH is not a steroid and I never thought that it was. Even so, it is a performance enhancer and I think it's important for MLB to continue its efforts to remove those from the game. I am a firm believer in the idea that a professional player should not be forced into taking potential harmful performance enhancing substances in order to remain competitive in his chosen profession.

That said, you are correct in that technological advances will continue to put the users one step ahead of the testers. That's an unfortunate reality, as testers cannot look for something until it exists and is in use by athletes. Even so, it's a fight that needs to be fought.

At this point, it'll be a never ending battle, as the rewards to be reaped by reaching the highest level just keep escalating, which gives athletes more incentive to cheat. If you read Will Carrol's book "The Juice," then you'll see that one of his final topics is that genetic engineering may be the next big future wave in performance enhancement.

There are no easy answers and no easy solutions, but the cleaner the sport the better in my book.

Thanks,
LarkLark11https://www.blogger.com/profile/06571198327064220683noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6347536209014288641.post-59790344766347116142008-12-22T16:37:00.000-08:002008-12-22T16:37:00.000-08:00The HGH "controversy" in sports will be meaningles...The HGH "controversy" in sports will be meaningless in a few years. Growth Hormone is not a steroid. It's found naturally in the body. Banning it as a performance enhancer is like banning caffeine, sugar, chewing tobacco, or aspirin as a performance enhancer. Shooting HGH is passe now because it can be obtained legally over the counter in a homeopathic oral spray form which does not involve needles. There are about 30 companies selling it legally over the internet. Get over it. HGH is here to stay, like caffeine, sugar, chewing tobacco, and aspirin.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
