Also, interesting to see the Francisco comparison, as it is one that I have considered in the past. In fact, I even rated Dorn ahead of Francisco on last year's list. Unfortunately, Dorn didn't do enough for me to do so again this year.

Even so, I love Dorn's swing mechanics and his approach at the plate. In every one of the swing photos in this write-up, Dorn is in pretty much perfect position. His balance is strong, his head is down on the ball, his extension is good, and his upper and lower body work well together. The guy is just a natural hitter.

As for Francisco, I have real concerns about him as well. If you read this blog, it probably won't take long to discover that I'm a big believer in selectivity and controlling the strike zone. To me, that's the obvious big red flag with Francisco. It seems that Dusty Baker loves the guy, so I'll expect we'll see him get a significant look in the majors this year. Hopefully, he'll prove me wrong. His plus power certainly helps.

Thanks for the update on Dorn getting the invite. Last I heard he had been passed over, so this is good news. Still, he has to leapfrog a lot of guys to even win a bench spot, much less the starting leftfield gig. Still, baby steps. I'll be rooting for him.

Thanks for the comments!

Best,
LarkLark11https://www.blogger.com/profile/06571198327064220683noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6347536209014288641.post-83525358026761595932010-01-28T06:40:38.358-08:002010-01-28T06:40:38.358-08:00Smitty,

It's really quite unfortunate that the organization will eventually find out that Dorn will have a longer major league career than their "golden child" Francisco is likely to have. Certainly you give a guy like Juan every opportunity to succeed what with his talent but they seem to bend over backwards for him while the highly skilled Dorn who could be of some value to the 25 man right now is merely tossed aside.

I just hope the kid doesn't give up on himself, although he doesn't seem the type he has been given every reason to never expect to be a major leaguer. As they say if you can hit they will find a spot for ya and he can hit.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6347536209014288641.post-90913093692179864952010-01-26T08:34:48.353-08:002010-01-26T08:34:48.353-08:00I had to go to boston, didnt have computer access....I had to go to boston, didnt have computer access.smittynoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6347536209014288641.post-29863581542623092672010-01-25T21:59:22.402-08:002010-01-25T21:59:22.402-08:00Smitty,

I'm a bigger fan of Dorn than most, but even I'm starting to wonder if he fits into the organization's plans at all.

I'd love to see him start off the 2010 season hot and maintain a bit more consistency throughout the season. I love his plate approach and the mechanics of his swing, but he's going to need to take it up a notch to get MLB consideration.

Thanks for the comment!

Best,
LarkLark11https://www.blogger.com/profile/06571198327064220683noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6347536209014288641.post-38215225113152682162010-01-25T16:46:32.600-08:002010-01-25T16:46:32.600-08:00I like dorns bat, but like you sid he really doesn...I like dorns bat, but like you sid he really doesnt have many tools. who knows what will happen with himsmittynoreply@blogger.com
